The Baking Industry Alliance and the USO hosted a fantastic event to prepare transitioning service members for civilian careers! This was the largest Fort Riley USO Pathfinder event to date, with over 50 service members and spouses and 27 baking industry representatives. Grain Craft was glad to be a part of it and was represented by a couple of our own military veteran employees, Mark Farmer and Challenge Crawford.
While enjoying a bounty of baked goods, thanks to contributions from participating baking companies, attendees were able to step inside a bakery with the help of virtual reality bakery tours. In addition to the mock interviews, industry representatives led an interactive panel discussion about the variety of companies and careers that compose wholesale baking, and those representatives with military backgrounds shared their experiences transitioning to positions in the baking industry.
This was an important step in educating our country’s transitioning service members and spouses about the incredible career opportunities in the baking industry. As Crystal Kearns, USO Pathfinder Senior Operations Manager, USO Kansas at Ft. Riley said, “What is awesome about the baking industry is that they have a variety of occupations, which is just like the military. Specifically, you have logistics, transportation, mechanics, manufacturers, marketing representatives—the military has all of those as well.”
